IRVING, Texas -- One of the more underappreciated aspects of a wide receiver’s game is the ability to block.
Dez Bryant and Miles Austin can be good at it, and new receivers coach Derek Dooley has put an emphasis on his group’s downfield block.
Rookie Terrance Williams showed Saturday against Cincinnati that he can be a decent blocker, too, especially after he was flagged for a penalty on a running play.
Williams was called for holding on a 5-yard run by Joseph Randle.
On the next two runs, DeMarco Murray picked up 13 and 15 yards and was aided by some downfield blocks by Williams.
“He’s a tough guy, and he’s a willing guy,” coach Jason Garrett said. “And that was the scouting report coming out of school and that’s what we’ve seen from him. It’s important to him and he knows what his role is on every play, and he tries to get it done. On some of that stuff the receiver’s block is critical, and I thought he did a good job of coming back from the penalty.”
