ARLINGTON, Texas -- Toward the end of the Cowboys' annual luncheon on Wednesday afternoon at AT&T Stadium, coach Jason Garrett spoke to fans, former players, team sponsors and the assembled media about the vision of the franchise in 2013.

Garrett said it's about winning a championship.

"I understand the commitment that all these men in front of you make each and every day," Garrett said. "We're committed to making the Dallas Cowboys the best of the best. We understand the legacy, we understand the standard. Our goal is to be standing on a podium in Giants Stadium on the night of Feb. 2, freezing, freezing, freezing as much as you can freeze but holding a trophy over our head. That's our goal, that's our vision for this franchise."

Of course the Super Bowl is at MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and New York Jets in East Rutherford, N.J. Before the insurance company became the rights holder, the stadium was called Giants Stadium.

Regardless of what the stadium is called, Garrett isn't one to make bold announcements, because he normally leaves that to team owner/general manager Jerry Jones, who also spoke at the luncheon.

"I know how 8-8 feels," Jones told the crowd. "It makes me want to do better than that."

The Cowboys finished the past two seasons at 8-8 missing the playoffs in the regular-season finale in each of those seasons. Jones has avoided Super Bowl talk this summer, instead focusing on just trying to make the team better.

Garrett followed the same standard, but in front of this crowd, it seemed the head coach didn't want anybody to forget what the goals are. With several former Cowboys' players in the audience, who have won Super Bowl titles, Garrett said to them, "We're trying to get to your level."

"Feb. 2 is a long ways away, but we're focused on today," Garrett added. "With the right kind of people, we're taking the right kind of approach."

The Cowboys open the season Sept. 8 against the Giants at AT&T Stadium.
