IRVING, Texas -- First it was Jerry Jones, now it's coach Jason Garrett offering his support for Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.

After the Cowboys' 45-28 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night, Jones said he wanted his defense to be more aggressive and trick some things up. Tuesday morning on his weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan, Jones said Kiffin is the right man to fix an ailing defense.

On Wednesday morning, Garrett backed Kiffin, as well.

"Absolutely," Garrett said when asked about the confidence level in Kiffin. "Well, we just have to go back to work. We have to look at what happened in the ballgame. There were some technical things. There were some scheme things. We just have to make the necessary corrections. A couple of different times in the year, we’ve had some bad games and games where we didn’t do what we needed to do on defense, and we made the corrections and we played better. We simply have to do that again."

As a defense, the Cowboys rank last overall (426.8 yards per game) and against the pass (298.5). The Cowboys also have the 28th-worst rushing defense (128.4) and have allowed the most first downs (324) in the league.

It seems Kiffin is always trying to defend his defense after bad games, and the loss to the Bears was another one; backup quarterback Josh McCown threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns.

At some point, especially with three games remaining in their season, the Cowboys' defense has to get better, even if it's slightly.

"Well, we’re certainly in this situation that we’re in, and the challenge is for us to simply do that, as players and as coaches," Garrett said. "So the opportunity is going to happen at 3:25 on Sunday afternoon against the Packers. So, got to learn from this one, make the corrections and get ready to go against the Packers."
