Roddy Beaubois might not make opener

As the countdown to the start of the regular season hits the one-week mark Wednesday, it's looking as though second-year guard Roddy Beaubois might not be in uniform for the Dallas Mavericks.

Beaubois had a recent setback and had to return to wearing a walking boot. The talented youngster who the Mavs would love to start at shooting guard this season broke his left foot in early August while working out with the French national team in preparation for the FIBA World Championships. He had surgery days later.

The hope was he would be ready for the season-opener against the Charlotte Bobcats at the American Airlines Center. While Mavs officials aren't saying whether he will or won't be ready, it is apparent he is running out of time.

"Steady progress," coach Rick Carlisle said via text message Tuesday. "No set timetable."

The Mavs have not set a timetable since the injury. Clearly they'd like Beaubois in the lineup as early as possible, but they have said throughout that they will not rush his return and that it would not be surprising if he is not ready to go by next week.
