Rodrigue Beaubois gets first start of season

DALLAS -- With Delonte West out of the lineup nursing a bad hamstring, Rodrigue Beaubois will get his first start since April 11 tonight against the Utah Jazz.

West said he expects to miss just one game.

Vince Carter returns tonight after missing the last five games with a sprained left foot. He was an option to start, but coach Rick Carlisle rewarded Beaubois for his improved play of late, including 17 points in an outstanding effort last week in Salt Lake City that allowed Dallas to get past the Jazz.

Beaubois is averaging 6.2 points in 14.3 minutes a game.

He assumed the starting role last season when he finally returned from a broken foot two days before the All-Star break. He started every game until the regular-season finale because the team's core lobbied Carlisle to start the more rugged defender DeShawn Stevenson heading into the playoffs.

Beaubois then re-injured his left foot in that regular-season finale and did not play during the postseason, although he was active for some of the games. He underwent a second surgery soon after the season.
