Dirk Nowitzki records 1,000th career block

DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki, now three points away from becoming No. 20 on the NBA's all-time scoring list, recorded the 1,000th block of his career early in the first quarter of Monday's game.

Nowitzki swatted away Boston guard Avery Johnson's reverse layup attempt.

Nowitzki becomes just the third player in NBA history with at least 1,000 blocks and 1,000 3-point field goals (Clifford Robinson and Rasheed Wallace).

He has four points so far against the Celtics. He needs seven to pass former Celtics great Robert Parish.
