Source: Mavs interested in Elton Brand

The Dallas Mavericks have eyes on one high-dollar player.

Veteran forward Elton Brand, owed $18 million next season, will be amnestied by the Philadelphia 76ers when NBA business operations resume Wednesday, and the Mavs have already expressed interest in claiming him in the amnesty waiver process.

Teams under the salary cap get first crack to bid for Brand. The winner will pay that portion of his overall contract. The 76ers are on the hook for the rest his salary, but the full amount is wiped off their books for salary cap and luxury tax purposes.

If no teams bid on Brand, then he will become a free agent. However, there is expected to strong interest among teams under the cap.

The Mavs are also expected to continue talks today for point guard Ramon Sessions. So far those talks have been described as preliminary.
