Mavs work out local college hopefuls

The Mavericks brought in some local college hopefuls among six prospects -- none of whom are projected to be drafted in June -- for a pre-draft workout on Monday. Locals included Texas Wesleyan guard Jamel White and UT-Arlington's Marquez Haynes, according to an online report by College Fanz Sports Network.

Also invited were Big 12 standouts Tweety Carter from Baylor Bears and Oklahoma's Tony Crocker.

Jermaine Beal from Vanderbilt and Dwight Lewis from USC also worked out with several Mavs coaches and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson, the report said.

The players could earn a spot on the Mavs' summer-league team that will play in Las Vegas in July with hopes of then earning a free-agent contract with Dallas or another team.
