Former Star Turgeon's daughter dies in car accident

The 18-year-old daughter of former Dallas Stars forward Pierre Turgeon was killed in a car crash early Thursday morning, according to New Mexico State Police.

Police said in a release that Elizabeth Turgeon failed to stop at an intersection and crashed into the trailer of a semi near Vaughn, N.M., about 60 miles southeast of Santa Fe. Turgeon was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The Dallas Stars extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Pierre Turgeon," said Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk. "She is gone too young at the age of 18. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Turgeon family."

Dense fog is listed as a contributing factor in the accident.

Pierre Turgeon played with the Stars from 2001-04. He scored 515 goals and recorded 812 assists in 19 NHL seasons with Dallas, Buffalo, the Islanders, Montreal, St. Louis and Colorado.
