Brandon Segal clears waivers, heads to AHL

Right wing Brandon Segal cleared waivers today and is headed to the Texas Stars of the AHL. Segal was put on waivers due to the Stars acquiring right wing Jamie Langenbrunner from New Jersey last last week.

That move gave the Stars 14 forwards and GM Joe Nieuwendyk said he wants to carry 13, which the team has done most of the season.

Segal is on a two-way contract that pays him $550,000 at the NHL but $130,000 at the AHL level, so the team will save some money as well.

A few notes from the morning skate.

Defenseman Karlis Skrastins (head) skated with the team this morning and said he feels good following the skate.

"We're looking more towards Saturday with him, "Stars coach Marc Crawford said. "He'll see the doctors tomorrow and if he's cleared for full contact then he'll go full contact. We'd have three practices to get him ready for Saturday.

Defenseman Matt Niskanen and forward Toby Petersen both skated on their own in Frisco today.

"They're not closer although they are progressing," said Crawford.
