SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Former Rangers pitcher Thomas Diamond was at the Phoenix Airport on Wednesday, waiting for his bags after flying in for spring training.
Diamond, who had plenty of time to chat with me since it takes a while to get bags in Phoenix, was headed to Mesa, Ariz., to join the Cubs for spring training.
Diamond is not on the 40-man roster, but said he's coming into spring as a starter and wants to show the Cubs what he can do. He said he made three starts in Mexico over the winter and allowed one run.
Diamond sure had a bright future with the Rangers as part of the celebrated DVD trio (none of the three are with the organization anymore). He's recovered from surgery and feels good. He's a good guy and told me to tell all the fans thanks and good luck.
