Jeff Francoeur, Jorge Cantu start Gm. 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- With the Rays officially naming left-handed pitcher David Price as the starter for Game 1, manager Ron Washington will continue his pattern of playing his key right-handed hitters, including outfielder Jeff Francoeur and first baseman Jorge Cantu.

"That’s the way we’ve done it all year," Rangers manager Ron Washington said, "and we will continue to do what we did all year that got us here."

Cantu is hitting .234 against left-handed pitching this season and has had solid at-bats the past few weeks. He was traded to the Rangers from Florida and said Monday that he was excited to be back and starting the playoffs here.

Francoeur has batted .300 against left-handed pitching this season and since he's been with Texas is hitting .340 with two homers and 11 RBIs.
