SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Rangers manager Ron Washington said the plan is for Brandon Webb to throw off a mound on Sunday. It would be the first time since his throwing session early in camp that Webb has done that.
That is based on Webb feeling OK on Saturday after he had another long toss session Friday (though this one wasn't quite as long as his session on Thursday). If he feels good, Webb would throw off a mound on Sunday.
Webb threw off a mound last Thursday so that pitching coach Mike Maddux and others could take a look at him. The decision was made then to build up his arm strength before he got back on a mound. So Webb has been long tossing from various distances.
Washington said everything went well on Friday. Once Webb gets on a mound, he'll have to build up from there. The Rangers said before spring training began that they would take a cautious and conservative approach with Webb, wanting to be sure that he was 100 percent healthy after pitching just four big league innings in the last two seasons.
