SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Dave Bush can request an out in his contract on Sunday if he isn't on the Rangers roster and he said Saturday that he would probably do that if the Rangers don't keep him.
"I'd look at my options with other teams," Bush said.
Bush has a 4.85 ERA this spring, allowing seven earned runs in 13 innings. He started for Neftali Feliz on short notice Thursday night and is in the mix for a long relief spot and possibly the fifth starter job (though Michael Kirkman and Alexi Ogando appear to be the leading candidates).
"I'm happy with how things have gone," Bush said. "It isn't my best spring, but I feel good and I'm throwing all my pitches. I don't have an indication one way or the other how this will go. I want to be here. We'll see."
The bullpen has had a difficult spring. Mark Lowe and Darren O'Day have struggled -- Lowe has a 13.50 ERA and O'Day a 9.00 ERA in Cactus League games -- and Arthur Rhodes just received an injection in his left wrist that the club hopes will relieve the pain and keep him on track for Opening Day. Those struggles were one reason Neftali Feliz was kept as the closer and not put in the rotation.
Should Rhodes not be ready for the start of the season, Rangers manager Ron Washington said he'd like to have another lefty in the bullpen. Depending on how things shake out, Kirkman could be a possibility there. Those decisions likely won't be made until after the Round Rock game on Wednesday.
Washington remains positive that he'll have a group of relievers that can get the job done.
"We've always gotten along with what we've got, not what we don't have," Washington said. "We will continue to get along with what we've got."
