Neftali Feliz won't be saved for saves

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Just as Ron Washington demonstrated in the weekend sweep of Boston, the Rangers manager won’t wait for a save situation to summon closer Neftali Feliz.

“I’m trying to win a game,’’ Washington said during his Monday meeting with the press. “It is nothing against the Boston Red Sox. I’m going to get the ball to him [Feliz] and let's go home.

“But say I don’t use him, all hell breaks loose and by the time I get him in, we lose. I’m trying to win.’’

Feliz worked a 1-2-3 ninth in Monday’s 6-4 win against Seattle to earn his first save of the season. He pitched a scoreless ninth in two wins over Boston.

Washington said Darren Oliver, Arthur Rhodes and Darren O'Day will share the eighth-inning setup role.

O'Day was used in the seventh inning on Monday followed by Rhodes in the eighth.
