Texas Rangers television play-by-play announcer Dave Barnett will miss the final two games of the series in San Diego to undergo tests after having an on-air issue in the eighth inning of Monday's game. Barnett believes he may have a recurrence of migraine headaches.
During the bottom of the eighth inning with Mike Adams pitching for the Rangers, Barnett struggled to properly call the action:
"A 2-1 game, the tying run at second on a leadoff single by Chase Utley. The go-ahead run (pause) is at fifth, on what Adams is insisting on calling a botched robbery. What actually happened was his henchman took a piece literally out of ..."
Barnett stopped there, then finished the game without further incident.
Steve Busby will slide over from the radio booth to television and Bryan Dolgin, who handles pre- and post-game coverage on the Rangers broadcast (the flagship station is ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM) will join Eric Nadel on radio while Barnett is out.
We are fortunate in this market to have solid Rangers' broadcasting crews, which includes versatile folks who can substitute when needed. Let's hope that the tests go well and Barnett will be returning to the booth soon.
