Former lightweight titleholder Omar Figuera Jr.'s fight with former lightweight and junior lightweight titlist Ricky Burns will take place at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, where a news conference for the fight is scheduled on Wednesday.
Figueroa (24-0-1, 18 KOs), who is moving up to junior welterweight, and Burns (37-4-1, 11 KOs), of Scotland, who will fight at junior welterweight for the second time in a row, will meet in the main event of a “Premier Boxing Champions” card on May 9 (CBS, 4 p.m. ET).
Initially, the location of the card was announced as being in San Antonio without a specific venue mentioned. Figueroa, from Weslaco, Texas, will be the overwhelming crowd favorite.
After an 0-2-1 (with a very generous draw) stretch in which he lost his title, Burns won an eight-round decision over Alexandre Lepelley in October.
Figueroa retained his lightweight title in his last fight, stopping Daniel Estrada in the ninth round in August.
