Thurman selected as PBC fighter of the year

Welterweight titlist Keith Thurman has been named the Premier Boxing Champions fighter of the year, as selected by the PBC's television partners (ESPN, NBC, CBS, Spike, FS1 and Bounce).

Thurman got the nod over Danny Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, Shawn Porter and Deontay Wilder. Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs), 27, of Clearwater, Florida, won both of his fights this year in impressive fashion. The first was a decision against Robert Guerrero on the first-ever PBC card in March on NBC followed by an eighth-round knockout of Luis Collazo on ESPN in July.

"This year has been spectacular, opening up for two networks -- NBC and ESPN -- and we're truly looking forward to 2016," Thurman said. "We're into the next generation and Keith 'One Time' Thurman represents part of the next generation -- 26-0 with 22 KOs, not afraid to fight anybody. I want to see how far I can go in the world of boxing."

Thurman's 2016 debut is expected to be against former titleholder Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs).
