Lions DC Teryl Austin not a big fan of holidays -- any of them

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Teryl Austin will see his family this holiday season -- just not in person.

The Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator said he’ll FaceTime with his wife and five children some time on Christmas Day. He doesn’t, though, have a favorite holiday.

“No, I don’t like any of them,” Austin said.

He explained.

“Just another day,” Austin said. “I think when you get in this profession, a lot of holidays you’re working and you have things to do so you’re not kind of enjoying it. It ends up being another work day. So, that’s why I’m not a big, just, never got into the spirit.”

Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter also said he won’t be doing much over the holidays – noting he’s spending part of Christmas Eve for his allotted time with the media and that “it’s a Thursday and a Friday for me.” He said he will get a little bit of time away Friday but with a short week, he has a lot to take care of.

When he was asked whether or not he had a favorite holiday – like July 4 or Thanksgiving or Christmas or, heck, even Tax Day – Cooter wasn’t sure.

“I don’t know about that,” Cooter said. “I have to check my rankings. Not off the top of my head.”
