Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly, expecting their first child

Matthew Stafford is about to have a new addition to his family.

Stafford's wife, Kelly, announced on Instagram late Friday afternoon that she is pregnant with the couple's first child -- using their two dogs to share their news with the world.

Yep, our family is expanding. #babystafford #madeindetroit

Stafford met his wife at Georgia, when she was a cheerleader and he was the team's quarterback. They were married last summer and their wedding was written about in multiple places, including The Knot magazine and also here, which includes a picture of former Lions tight end Joseph Fauria.

Stafford has been with the Detroit Lions since he was the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2009, the team's first pick after their 0-16 season in 2008 and the first draft pick made by then-Lions general manager Martin Mayhew and team president Tom Lewand. He signed a contract extension with the Lions in 2013 and enters the potential final year of that contract in 2017.

He could be up for another contract extension following this season.
