Kerry Hyder spent part of his weekend working with kids at the NFL Experience in Houston ahead of Super Bowl LI. Then he got to turn into a kid for a few seconds himself, stepping into the Nickelodeon slime tank wearing a blue Detroit Lions shirt.
Childhood dream fulfilled -- something the defensive lineman posted on his Twitter account Sunday night. He did take the easy way out a little bit, wearing a clear poncho over his clothing before getting slimed instead of accepting his slime fate on his clothes.
Hyder, who had a breakout year in 2016, grew up two-and-a-half hours away in Austin, Texas. In addition to getting to step into the slime tank, he worked a Play 60 event. He was one of at least two Lions who were at the NFL Experience this weekend; safety Glover Quin, who lives in Houston in the offseason, showed up with his children.
Quin is involved in a few Super Bowl-related events this week, including a scholarship event put on by former Lions safety James Ihedigbo (another Houston resident) on Wednesday night.
