Freshman Player of the Year: Katie Lou Samuelson

Notes: We recognize that many top freshmen and sophomores have yet to fully develop their many skills and realize that many top young players are in strong programs and may be currently behind older players….

These players all played at the varsity level and these selections were based more on what they did during the high school season and very little on AAU or summer competition….

Also for the sophomores, Gabby Green is considered one of the top recruits among 10th graders in the nation, but was injured for most of the high school season. Karlee Samuelson (on the juniors) also was injured and then got sick while Kristen Simon had off-the-court issues that ended her season. We decided just to list all three obviously talented players on lower teams instead of perhaps not listing them at all….

Thanks to managing editor Ronnie Flores and to longtime correspondent Harold Abend for assisting in the selection process….

We have changed from the previous format and will present at least a first five and second five for every team…..
