Seneca (Shamong, N.J.) senior defenseman Sean Gray has verbally committed to play men's lacrosse for Wagner College.
Gray, a 2012 graduate, plays for New Jersey based club lacrosse team Braveheart.
ESPN High School: What other school’s did you consider?
Sean Gray: “Jacksonville, Manhattan, Florida Southern, University of Tampa, Pace, Nazareth.”
EHS: What made Wagner such an attractive choice?
SG: “I will be a great opportunity to play Division I lacrosse with a program being rebuilt under a new coach (Matt Poskay) and the ability to stay in the Northeast. To be coached by Matt Poskay, with his awesome lacrosse background and reputation, weighed heavily in my decision."
EHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?
SG: “That it comes up you quicker than you think, and many of the colleges are recruiting earlier and earlier. Also, it is important is to try to compete in as many Fall and Summer tournaments as possible.”
EHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?
SG: “How they intend to compete and improve the program over the next four years or so, and I how I will fit into those plans.”
EHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?
SG: “Get your name out there early and play as much in the Fall, Summer and Winter as you can. Also don't get discouraged if you don't hear from some schools.”
EHS: Is there anything about the recruiting process that you think could change that would have made it easier or less stressful for you?
SG: “If college coaches/recruiters were able to evaluate players during and through the high school regular season, it would make easier on a lot of kids.”
