          HIGHLIGHTS

          • G-1500: Mary Cain (Bronxville) ran a US#1 4:24.25 to set a soph class USR and become #4 all-time. Brianna Nerud (North Shore) – who tried to put the pressure on early, but was unable to get away – was a strong 2nd in US#2 4:29.21. Cain’s 200 splits going out were 36-67.8-1:47.9-2:24.6, then she closed in 2:19-1:40.7-31. The previous soph record was 4:27.57 by Nicole Blood (Saratoga Springs). The New York state mark is 4:22.1 by Molly Huddle from 2002, but that was a mixed open race.

          • G-300: Kyle Plante (Colonie Central) ran the best time in the trials with a 38.56, while prime competitors Kadecia Baird (Medger Evers) scratched and Olicia Williams (St Anthony’s) false started. Plante then dominated the final winning in US#4 38.23, #13 all-time.

          • G-4x800: Fayetteville-Manlius raced into the lead and built it up each for the win in US#4 9:08.77.

          • G-1000: Anima Banks (Mamaroneck) jumped to the lead and led through 800 at 2:15. Rachel Paul (Sachem East) pushed her hard the final lap, but Banks (already US#3 at 2:48.68) repeated with 2:49.84 to US#8 2:50.47 for Paul.

          • G-600: Olicia Williams (St Anthony’s) went to the front while Emma Gallagher (Garden City) sat in 3rd for the opening 2 laps. On the final lap, Gallagher kicked by for a US#4 1:32.37 victory over Williams’ US#6 1:33.11.

          • B-HJ: Brandon Joyce (Niagara Falls) is the only one over US#4 6’ 10”, then takes three attempts at the 7’ barrier.

          • B-3200: Kris Moran (North Babylon) went off the front with 3 laps to go for the victory in US#5 9:08.57. Dan Lennon (Peru) had gone out easy, working his way up through the field, and missed the move off the front. He crossed in second at 9:11.42, and thought at first he had won – not realizing Moran had gone off the front.

          • B-4x800: In one of the most anticipated events of the day, Collegiate had held out its top runners from individual events and the move paid off with a US#6 7:50.52 victory. They led through 3 legs and held off challenges by Warwick Valley (7:53.93) and defending champion Shaker (7:55.57).

          • B-55: Defending champ Winslow Dorsainvil (Spring Valley) ran the best time in the semi, 6.38, and then went on to win the final in US#6 6.33, the same time he ran to win in 2011.

          • B-300: Brian Smith (Greece Athena) ran the fastest time in the trials, crossing in 34.42, and then took the final in US#7 34.17.

          • B-1000: Despite his other creds, Zavon Watkins (Liverpool) had not run the 1k fast enough to get into the seeded section, so in the 2nd heat he had to run from the front, passing 800 in 1:57 then holding on to win in US#7 2:27.91. He then waited in the seeded section as Brian Crimmins (Horseheads) challenged through 800, but could not close as fast, running US#8 2:28.09.

          • B-600: USR holder (1:17.58) Strymar Livingston (Columbus) passed 400 in 50 seconds and went on to win in 1:20.02. Matt Crawford (Bethlehem) closed hard to grab 2nd in 1:20.62 and improve his US #8 time.

          • G: 4x400: Bay Shore led early, but on the 3rd leg US#2-ranked Garden City took over and, with 600 champ Emma Gallagher anchoring, won in 3:55.73 with Bay Shore 2nd in 3:59.08. Medger Evers crossed the line 3rd but was disqualified for using an invalid participant: Kadecia Baird scratched from the 300 trials, making her illegible to run in the remainder of the meet

          • G-3k: Christie Rutledge (Fayetteville-Manlius) went to the lead from the gun, while Alexis Panisse (Cardozo) and Gianna Frontera (Newburgh Free Academy) slowly moved up. With 1 lap to go, Panisse and Frontera were just a stride behind Rutledge and with 100 to go, the pair passed her. Coming down the final straight, Frontera looked like the winner, but she was nipped at the line by Panisse, 9:59.28 to 9:59.34, with Rutledge getting 3rd in 10:02.03.

          • G-1500 RW: In what might have been the closest finish of the day, Annica Penn (West Hampton Beach) kicked hard and almost caught leader and US#1 (7:04.08 coming in) Molly Josephs (Garden City) at the line. Josephs got the win, 7:04.84 – US#2 7:04.86

          • G-LJ: Mikayla Pearce (Maryvale) jumped 18’ 07.75 on her first attempt, good enough for the win. Her 19’ 00.50” winner came in the 5th round and she was the only jumper over 19’.

          • G-55H: Kailyn Arcury (Williamsville North) took the title over Akayla Anderson (Cardozo), 8.01 to 8.06.

          • G-TJ: Odrine Belot (Kellenberg) won with 39’ 1.25” on her 4th attempt. Molly Shapiro (Emma Willard) just missed catching her in the final round with 39’ 00.25”.

          • B-PV: Greg Gallagher (Iona Prep) started the year as the first jumper in New York to clear 15’ and ended the season winning the state title with a jump of 15’ 6”.

          • B-TJ: Chauncey Scissum (Rush-Henrietta) was sitting in 2nd with one jump left and bounded out to 47’ 6”, looking like a winner. But Thomas Johnson (White Plains) responded with a 47’ 7.75” jump to take the title.
