INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts signed eight players this offseason who played on other teams last season: WR Vincent Brown (Oakland), LB Trent Cole (Philadelphia), RB Frank Gore (San Francisco), OL Todd Herremans (Philadelphia), LB Nate Irving (Denver), WR Andre Johnson (Houston), DL Kendall Langford (St. Louis) and S Dwight Lowery (Atlanta).
This series ranks all eight signees.
We wrap it up with running back Frank Gore as the Colts’ top free-agent signing.
2014 stats: 255 attempts, 1,106 yards, 4 TD
Pro: The Colts haven’t had a running back rush for 1,000 yards in any of quarterback Andrew Luck's three seasons. Gore has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in eight of his 10 seasons. The Colts have had only one player -- Vick Ballard in 2012 -- rush for 100 yards in 48 regular-season games with Luck. Gore rushed for at least 100 yards in a game four times last season. Luck has won 11 games in each of his three seasons despite not having much of a running game. The Colts should be even better on offense with Gore, who has played in every game the past four seasons, helping take some of the pressure off the franchise quarterback.
Con: The numbers don’t lie with Gore. He’s produced throughout his 10-year career. He’ll also be 32 when the Colts report to training camp at Anderson (Ind.) University in July. The good thing for Gore and the Colts is that he won’t have to carry the load because Luck's arm will help lighten things up for him. Gore doesn't have to rush for 1,300 yards in order for the Colts to be successful.
