Jaguars will give Myles Jack, Yannick Ngakoue first-team reps on Sunday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to mix things up a bit in their third preseason game on Sunday night against Cincinnati.

Coach Gus Bradley said earlier this week that rookie linebacker Myles Jack will see some snaps with the first-team defense, but Bradley said Friday that the team will put other players in different roles against the Bengals. He called it a fact-finding mission.

"We'll put some guys in different positions just to see how they handle a heightened environment," Bradley said. "It might be how they handle going against [the first team]. ... We've still got to find out some things about players and how they respond."

Bradley said he wouldn't go over all the players at whom they want to take a closer look, but did mention defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and defensive tackle Richard Ash. Ngakoue, the Jaguars' third-round pick who backs up Dante Fowler Jr. at the pass-rushing leo position, could get work with the first-team defense. Ngakoue and Fowler will be on the field at the same time in the Jaguars' third-down rush package so the Jaguars want to see how he handles reps against the Bengals' first-team offensive tackles.

Ash, a first-year player from Western Michigan, played well in the preseason opener against the New York Jets. With Roy Miller (quad) out against the Bengals, Abry Jones probably will start and Ash will get more work at nose tackle.

Though Bradley didn't elaborate on any more players, it's not a stretch to think the Jaguars will try to get a better look at backup tight ends Ben Koyack and Braedon Bowman, defensive end Bjoern Werner, and receivers Tony Washington, Rashad Lawrence and Jamal Robinson.

A couple of other notes ....

Bradley said the plan is to get LT Kelvin Beachum 15 to 25 snaps, but the team will evaluate his left knee after each drive. Bradley said it's even possible Beachum could come out of the game if the Jaguars are on a long drive, rest a bit, and then go back in. Beachum is expected to start at left tackle and Luke Joeckel is expected to start at left guard. Joeckel also will get some reps at tackle. ...

DT Sen'Derrick Marks was not at Friday's walk-through because of a death in his family. He will be back for the game. ...

In addition to Miller, S James Sample (shoulder) and DT Sheldon Day (back) will not play against the Bengals.
