McShay again has offensive lineman for Chiefs with first pick

For those with ESPN Insider access, ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay has his mock draft 5.0Insider posted and he hasn't changed his pick for the Kansas City Chiefs since the previous version.

McShay again gives the Chiefs Florida State center Cameron Erving with their first-round choice, 18th overall. Erving would be a solid choice for the Chiefs, who have only the untested Eric Kush at center.

I'm not certain the Chiefs would agree. They did draft tackle Eric Fisher with the first overall pick in the 2013 draft, but general manager John Dorsey seems to believe interior linemen can be found later in the draft.

The Chiefs picked Kush in the sixth round in 2013. They acquired guards Zach Fulton and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif in the sixth round last year.

Not much the Chiefs could do from a positional standpoint with their first-round pick would surprise me. An interior offensive lineman would be one thing.

So if they draft Erving with this pick, it's a sign they strongly believe he will become a great player.
