KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs have scored 75 points during their two-game winning streak, which has obscured another fact. They're also playing good defense. They've allowed just 14.5 points over the past two games and have greatly cut down on the number of big passes they've allowed.
They spring more than their share of leaks in their run defense, which could be a problem against Frank Gore and the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. But they forced their first turnovers of the season last week against New England, when they got three takeaways.
Those tend to come in bunches and they should continue against San Francisco and quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has one of the league's highest interception rates. If the Chiefs can work off enough short fields, they should be able to score enough to beat the 49ers.
My prediction: Chiefs 24, 49ers 20.
