COSTA MESA, Calif. -- They have yet to win a game in their new city, but one Los Angeles Chargers are off to a good start.

Defensive end Melvin Ingram was named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September by the league.

It's the first time Ingram has earned the honor. He's the first Charger to win the award for the month of September since Junior Seau in 2002.

Ingram is second in the NFL in sacks through three games with 5.5, including a career-high three against the Kansas City Chiefs last week.

"He's becoming an elite pass-rusher in this league," Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said. "It's good to see a guy go out and work hard every day, and then you see those results on the football field. Because that's the way he practiced."
