Chargers QB Philip Rivers wins AFC offensive player of the week

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- On the strength of his 434-yard, three-touchdown passing effort in a Thanksgiving Day win over the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers earned AFC offensive player of the week honors for Week 12.

It’s the eighth time Rivers has won the award. Only former Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson (10) has won more in franchise history.

Rivers is the third player for the Chargers to win player of the week honors this season.

Running back Melvin Gordon won offensive player of the week after finishing with 163 yards from scrimmage and two touchdown receptions in a win over the New York Giants in Week 5.

And Melvin Ingram earned AFC defensive player of the week honors for his three-sack effort in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3.
