Chargers CB Casey Hayward questionable vs. Chiefs

The visiting Los Angeles Chargers (7-6) could be without their top cover corner when facing the Kansas City Chiefs (7-6) on Saturday with first place in the AFC West up for grabs.

A healthy participant in practice for most of the week, Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward did not practice on Thursday due to a calf injury and is listed as questionable.

Hayward appeared on the injury report with a calf injury two weeks ago but played against the Cleveland Browns. He also was a limited participant last week in practice with a hamstring issue but played against the Washington Redskins.

“We held him out,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn told reporters after practice on Thursday. “He had more soreness in his calf, and it kind of worked its way down to the Achilles so we held him out."

Although concerned, Lynn said he’s hopeful Hayward can play on Saturday.

If Hayward can’t go, undrafted rookie Michael Davis would get his first career start against the Chiefs.

Hayward is playing at a Pro Bowl level for a second straight season. After leading the league in interceptions last year with seven, Hayward is tied for the team lead in picks with four.
