COSTA MESA, Calif. -- While the Los Angeles Chargers are holding teams to just 17.5 points a contest, No. 3 in the NFL, one thing they have struggled with all season is stopping the run.
"They broke two runs," Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward said. "I'm pretty sure it's probably some gap things in trying to tackle in the back end. But besides those two runs I think we bottled them up and did a good job. We've got to go back and watch, and see what we need to correct for those two runs."
The Chargers allowed back-to-back, 100-yard rushers the past two weeks. Kareem Hunt of the Kansas City Chiefs ran for 155 yards in a road loss for the Chargers two weeks ago. The Chargers are giving up a league-worst 133 rushing yards a contest.
All the Oakland native did last week against the No. 1-ranked run defense in the Philadelphia Eagles was rush for 95 yards on 25 carries. The Raiders finished with 137 rushing yards as a team.
With Derek Carr struggling to take care of the football, expect Oakland to lean on Lynch and the running game. Carr has thrown five touchdowns and four interceptions in the last three games, all losses for the Raiders.
The Chargers have allowed a league-worst 18 rushing plays of 20-plus yards this season. One thing that could help the Bolts defensively Sunday is the return of middle linebacker Denzel Perryman, who missed last week's game with a hamstring injury.
"He was chomping at the bit to get back last week, but I did not think he was ready," Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said. "There's a good chance he'll be ready this week. We'll see."
