Todd Gurley listed as doubtful for Sunday with foot injury

Barring a major change at the last minute, St. Louis Rams running back Todd Gurley's terrific rookie season is over.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher told reporters after the team's practice that Gurley will be listed as doubtful on Friday's injury report. In other words, there's a good chance that the foot injury that's kept Gurley out of practice this week, will also keep him out of Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The extent of Gurley's injury is unclear at the moment and we don't yet know if he'll be able to play in the Pro Bowl at the end of the month. If, as expected, his rookie season is done, Gurley finished with 1,106 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns with an average of 4.8 yards per carry in 13 games. He's considered a top contender, along with Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston, to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

With Gurley likely out of the mix, the Rams will turn to Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham to handle the bulk of the work. They promoted running back Malcolm Brown from the practice squad Thursday and he could figure into the mix as well.

In other news, the Rams placed cornerback Eric Patterson (ankle) on injured reserve and promoted receiver Nick Toon to the active roster for Sunday's finale.

Also, linebacker Mark Barron and defensive lineman Ethan Westbrooks have both passed the concussion protocol and are probable on the injury report.

Here's Friday's complete injury report:

Doubtful -- RB Todd Gurley (foot).

Questionable -- OL Andrew Donnal (knee).

Probable -- LB Mark Barron (concussion), DL Ethan Westbrooks (concussion), DT Michael Brockers (thigh).
