Angels scout ejected from Giants workout

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto said he had not heard from a scout who was ejected by Giants manager Bruce Bochy from watching his team work out.

According to CSNBayArea.com, Angels scout Jeff Schugel was kicked out of San Francisco’s workout Wednesday morning while watching the team’s pitchers. Schugel is one of the Angels' pro scouts whose normal coverage includes the National League West.

“I'm sitting there grading arms,” Schugel told the web site. “In 25 years, I’ve never had that happen to me.”

The scout called Hal Morris, the Angels’ new director of scouting, who told him he should leave and let the teams work out the issue. But the episode was news to Dipoto, a former scout. He said Angels workouts are open to the public and other team’s talent evaluators.

“We’ve not had that. Fans can come in, scouts can come in, unless it’s a closed workout,” Dipoto said. “They may have another policy.”

The Giants said Wednesday it was a misunderstanding and that Angels scouts are welcome to watch their workouts.
