The knock on Napoli

Mike Napoli's bat was like a battering ram in May. He went from zero extra-base hits in April to 18 last month.

But the good people at ESPN's stats and info department have come up with a reason not to get too excited about Napoli's offense. He has often been like a wet blanket to burgeoning rallies.

The newly minted stat -- rally-killing rate, or RKR -- calculates the percentage of time a player strikes out or grounds into a double play with runners in scoring position. Here's the leaderboard entering Thursday (minimum 35 plate appearances with RISP):

1. Napoli 52.4

2. Adam Jones 42.9

3. Miguel Olivo 42.3

4. Luke Scott 41.7

5. Matt LaPorta 41.7
