You can pencil in the return of catcher Jeff Mathis for Saturday at Angel Stadium. That presumes that Mathis has no further setbacks in the right wrist he fractured on April 19. He's playing in Triple-A games through Friday, then will be evaluated by Angels doctors.
When Mathis comes back, the Angels have the option of using Mike Napoli nearly every day at first base. That allows them to keep Napoli's bat in the lineup without worrying about how much his defense behind the plate will cost them. Mathis is a far superior catcher, but not as powerful.
