GLENDALE, Ariz. -- While three left-handers vying for bullpen spots have made strong impressions, the picture is muddled for the six right-handers vying for one or two open jobs.

Dustin McGowan, who the Los Angeles Dodgers signed at the beginning of camp to an incentive-laden major-league deal, has allowed 12 hits and six runs in eight innings. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly went down to the minor-league side of camp Sunday morning to watch McGowan throw for the second day in a row and said the former Blue Jay is going through an adjustment period on a new team.

“I don’t think he’s comfortable yet,” Mattingly said. “We’ve seen some good sliders, some good off-speed stuff, but I don’t feel like he feels consistent yet, like he’s throwing the ball where he wants.”

Mattingly said Chris Hatcher seemed to be trying too hard to impress his new team as well. He was acquired from the Miami Marlins in the deal that sent Dee Gordon to Florida. Hatcher has an 8.53 ERA.

Two newcomers are pitching well: David Aardsma, a former Seattle Mariners closer, has a 2.25 ERA and Sergio Santos, a former Chicago White Sox closer, has as a 2.57 ERA.

Also, third baseman Juan Uribe was scratched from Sunday’s game with what Mattingly described as an illness. Uribe is scheduled to play Monday.
