Don Mattingly's seat goes from hot to comfortable

LOS ANGELES -- Remember when every decision Don Mattingly made was the wrong one? At least that's how some fans seemed to view it when the Dodgers were stuck in last place in the NL West.

Now, Mattingly is actually getting some credit for the Dodgers' hot streak. He waited until after Buster Posey's RBI double to point out that the San Francisco Giants' catcher was batting out of order last week. Closer Kenley Jansen has stabilized the back of the Dodgers' bullpen, so it no longer looks as if Mattingly is calling on the wrong guys at the wrong times.

None of which is lost on Mattingly, who insists his managing hasn't dramatically improved. It only looks that way.

"The decisions I'm making now are the same decisions I was making three weeks ago. If guys didn't get their outs, I looked like an idiot," Mattingly said. "I'm at the mercy."
