Coffey to DL; Lilly to be activated

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed veteran reliever Todd Coffey on the 15-day disabled list to clear a roster spot for left-hander Ted Lilly, who is scheduled to be activated from the DL for the first time this season and make his first start on Saturday night against the San Diego Padres.

Coffey is suffering from swelling in his right knee and was said to be compensating for it while on the mound. He failed to retire any of the three batters he faced in the seventh inning on Friday night, giving up two runs on a single, double and hit batter plus allowing one inherited runner to score, and he presently has a 36.00 ERA after three appearances this season totaling just one inning.

Lilly began the season on the DL because he was behind schedule late in spring training after missing time because of neck stiffness. He made one minor leagu rehabilitation start on advanced Class A Rancho Cucamonga last weekend, when he was knocked around but came out of it in good physical condition.
