GALAXY: KDOC steps in for Time Warner

The early winner in the Galaxy's 10-year contract with Time Warner Cable's regional sports networks? Orange County's independent KDOC/Channel 56.

The Time Warner channels, which in November announced a 10-year, $55 million deal with the Galaxy, won't be ready until October, a Galaxy official confirmed, so 18 games involving the MLS Cup champion will be shown on KDOC.

The games, which include L.A.'s Major League Soccer opener March 10 against Real Salt Lake), a May 2 showdown at Seattle, the July 4 home game against Philadelphia and a July 21 SuperClasico with Chivas USA, were listed on an internal KDOC list of sporting events it will televise in 2012, including Chivas USA, the NHL's Anaheim Ducks, WNBA's L.A. Sparks, Big 12 Conference baskeball and SEC football. ESPNLosAngeles.com was provided the list.

Chivas also annually televises select games on KDOC, which is based at the Orange County Register's offices in Santa Ana.

The Galaxy plans to announce this week its local television schedule, including the KDOC games and Spanish-language telecasts on KWHY/Channel 22. The club Tuesday announced its radio schedule, with 24 of 34 regular-season MLS games in English on KTLK/1150 and all 34 in Spanish on ESPN Deportes (KWKW/1330 or sister station KWKU/1220).

The final Galaxy game on the list is Sept. 30 at Colorado. Time Warner Cable would pick up telecasts for the last month of the regular season, the Galaxy official said. The team's games have been shown on Fox Sports' regional neworks, Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket.

Time Warner's new networks, in English and Spanish, were introduced last February with a 20-year Lakers agreement worth a reported $3 billion. Time Warner operates similar regional sports networks in New York and Wisconsin.
