Scroggins transferring to El Camino College

Former USC quarterback Jesse Scroggins is transferring to El Camino College, Warriors coach John Featherstone confirmed to ESPNLosAngeles.com Thursday.

Scroggins announced he was transferring last month after being buried on the depth chart following two seasons as a Trojan. He'll compete to start at El Camino this fall with the plan of then moving on to another four-year school in January, with two years of eligibility remaining.

"He's excited because he knows now he can play the game again," Featherstone said of Scroggins. "It's always unnfortunate when you go to a four-year and it doesn't work out.

"It's tough for him to leave, but he felt he needed a change."

Scroggins worked out at El Camino for the first time Thursday and will begin practicing with the team full-time on June 25. Featherstone said he was a "little rusty," but he still envisions Scroggins as a dual-threat quarterback at the JC level.

"What I saw from Jesse today is it looks like he's an all-around athlete," Featherstone said.

Former USC assistant coach Steve Sarkisian played quarterback for two seasons at El Camino in 1993 and 1994 before moving on to BYU. More recently, Matt Simms, the son of famed signal-caller Phil Simms, spent one season there in between stops at Louisville and Tennessee.
