The Miami Dolphins concluded their offseason program last week following mandatory minicamp. It was an intriguing series of practices where I learned plenty about the team.
However, several positions are still to be determined on Miami’s roster heading into training camp. Here is a look at one opening on the offensive line.
Position battle: Right guard
Current leader: Jeff Linkenbach
Competition: Billy Turner
Analysis: This has been a tough position to keep track of in the offseason. Turner, a 2014 third-round pick, began the offseason getting most of the first-team reps. However, as the offseason progressed, it was Linkenbach getting more first-team reps in last week’s mandatory minicamp. There remains a lot of shuffling in and out at right guard, which is a sign the coaching staff still isn’t sure who has the inside track at the position. Turner has size and potential. But he remains a major unknown for the coaching staff and must show what he can do in the preseason. Linnkenbach has 36 career starts with the Indianapolis Colts and Kansas City Chiefs. If the competition remains close, that could lead Miami’s coaching staff to trust Linkenbach more to start the season.
