College football has officially reached its conclusion, which means it is time for a run on NFL mock drafts.

ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper provided his first mock draft of the offseason. Let’s examine his pick for the Miami Dolphins.

Selection: No. 8 overall

Kiper’s pick: DE Shaq Lawson

School: Clemson

2015 stats: 59 tackles, 12.5 sacks

Analysis: This is an interesting pick for Miami. Kiper is projecting at least one of two outcomes: Starting defensive end Olivier Vernon will exit in free agency and/or former Pro Bowler Cameron Wake will be released. Either scenario would open the door for an immediate starter at defensive end. Lawson is relentless and really turned up his game his junior year with 12.5 sacks. He had only 3.5 sacks as a sophomore. Personally, I like Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves better in this slot for Miami. But the Dolphins have a lot of holes on their roster and can go several ways.
