Rangers by the numbers: Gonzalez to make first career road start

Chi Chi Gonzalez (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his second career start against Edinson Volquez (4-3 , 2.95 ERA) and the Kansas City Royals on Friday. Gonzalez will look to become the third pitcher in Rangers history to win each of his first two career starts (Glen Cook in 1985, Kevin Brown in 1986-88).

In his MLB-debut against the Red Sox, Gonzalez pitched 5 2/3 innings (hitless until a leadoff double in the sixth inning) with two strikeouts and five walks. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Gonzalez became just third pitcher in last 25 seasons to earn a win and not allow a run in their first MLB game despite have three more walks than strikeouts (Ryan O’Malley for the Cubs in 2006 and Vin Mazzaro for the Athletics in 2009).
