MLB Rumor Central: Kyle Zimmer could debut for Royals in 2016

The Kansas City Royals are still hopeful that former top prospect Kyle Zimmer will contribute to the big league club in 2016.

Selected with the fifth overall pick in 2015, Zimmer has seen his career sidetracked by a series of injuries. The 24-year-old right-handed pitcher is currently at extended spring training in Arizona where he is dealing with a bout of shoulder fatigue.

Zimmer is likely headed to Triple-A Omaha, and the Royals still view him as a contender for a late-season callup. “If he’s healthy, we all know what he can do,” Royals assistant manager J.J. Picollo told Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star.

Zimmer posted a combined 2.39 ERA at Class-A and Double-A in 2015.
