What's the likelihood Melvin Upton Jr. will join his brother Justin Upton in Motor City? Jonathan Dyer/USA TODAY Sports

It turns out the idea of both brothers Melvin Upton Jr. and Justin Upton on the same team once again may not be lost on the Detroit Tigers.

Rumor Central

The Tigers will “look into” signing the just-released Upton Jr., according to general manager Al Avila. The Uptons played together in Atlanta from 2013-14 and in San Diego in 2015, but it doesn’t seem as if they’ll reunite in Detroit, according Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press. Fenech notes it "doesn't sound like a strong possibility."

Upton Jr.was released by the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday after posting a .238 batting average, 20 home runs and 61 RBIs between the Jays and Padres last season. Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle also noted Upton Jr. is not on the San Francisco Giants' radar.

The Tigers are set to start the 2017 season with rookie JaCoby Jones in center field.
