Veteran reliever Steve Cishek could return to the Seattle Mariners' roster sooner than later.

Rumor Central

Manager Steve Servais told reporters, including Bob Dutton of the News Tribune, that Cishek could begin a rehab assignment in the next few days as he continues his recovery from offseason hip surgery.

Cishek lost his job as Mariners’ closer last season but is still projected to be a prominent setup reliever behind closer Edwin Diaz when he returns. The 30-year-old Cishek posted a 2.81 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP and 25 saves in 62 appearances for the Mariners last season.

The Mariners also had encouraging news on rehabbing reliever Tony Zych, who threw a simulated inning Wednesday and could be activated from the disabled list in the next few days. Zych, who has been sidelined with a biceps injury, struggled to a 1.46 WHIP in 12 appearances last season.
