1.While we’re trying to figure out who’s going to win the Heisman, it may be more difficult to pick the winner of the Biletnikoff, awarded to the best receiver. Eric Decker of Minnesota, Michael Floyd of Notre Dame and Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham are out for the season with injuries. Dez Bryant of Oklahoma State is suspended until next season, pending an appeal, for lying to the NCAA. Golden Tate of Notre Dame? Jordan Shipley of Texas? Anyone? Hello?
2.The playing surface at Autzen Stadium is named Rich Brooks Field to honor the Oregon coach who took over a program on life support and made it to the 1995 Rose Bowl. Brooks, the coach at Kentucky since 2003, said he never wanted to take the Wildcats back to Eugene. ‘It’s such a long trip,” Brooks said. “I really don’t have any desire to bring a team back where I was for 18 years and the field is named after me. I never had a desire to do that.”
3.Clemson back and kick returner C.J. Spiller is receiving belated Heisman love after his 310-yard performance at Miami. Tigers coach Dabo Swinney praised the senior for what he does off the field, too. “He has given his teammates every ounce of what he has had all year long. He has been the first guy in the locker room to be an encourager…I don’t know what he is going to do the rest of the year, but if he doesn’t play another snap, this guy should be in New York.”
