The regular season has come to a close, but not without some elite performances around the ACC. While a number of players had big games -- Lamar Jackson at Louisville, Isaiah Ford at Virginia Tech, Max McCaffrey for Duke -- the biggest games provided our helmet sticker winners for the day.
Clemson QB Deshaun Watson: Another week, another helmet sticker for Clemson’s superstar. Watson carried the Tigers past South Carolina in a game when the rest of the team played some of its sloppiest football of the season. A year after toppling the Gamecocks on a torn ACL, Watson had a career-high 20 carries and three rushing touchdowns and topped 380 yards of total offense for the fifth straight game. Perhaps most significant, Watson converted nine of the 11 third-down plays in which he carried or threw the ball.
North Carolina RB Elijah Hood: The Tar Heels wrapped up their 11th straight win with a monster first quarter and a dominant day by Hood, dooming NC State. Hood racked up a whopping 220 yards and two touchdowns on just 21 carries, including four of 25 yards or more. It was Hood’s seventh 100-yard game of the season, and he’s found the end zone eight times in his past four contests.
Florida State DE DeMarcus Walker and RB Dalvin Cook: Florida State marched to a third-quarter lead on the strength of its defense, led by Walker, who finished with eight tackles, 2.5 for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and blocked a field goal. In the fourth quarter, it was Cook who salted the game away. Cook finished with 26 carries for 183 yards and two touchdowns and added another three catches for 11 yards. Of Cook’s 194 yards of offense, 150 came in the final quarter, boosting FSU’s lead from 13-0 to a 27-2 final.
