The minute quarterback Case Keenum crossed the goal line to give Houston a 29-28 lead over Texas Tech, the Cougars' season changed.
No longer were the Cougars that team with a fluke win at Oklahoma State; it became a legitimate contender for a BCS bowl berth.
Houston came back from a 21-10 deficit to take a lead with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter. Its defense held on for the victory.
With multiple Top 25 teams losing this week, Houston’s ascent in the polls is unpredictable. Likely, the Cougars will be in the top 10 Sunday afternoon.
Right now, Houston has the best resume of all of the undefeated non-AQ schools, and it still has a final AQ team to play in two weeks in Mississippi State.
The season doesn’t get any easier for Houston. It spends the next three weeks on the road against UTEP, Mississippi State and Tulane. Conference USA is going to be tough, especially with Southern Miss and Tulsa waiting for the Cougars in back-to-back games in late October and November.
